Abstract

(de) Der Titel stammt aus einem Gedicht von Barthold Heinrich Brockes, das Georg Friedrich Händel vertont hat. Das Textfragment betont die Unmöglichkeit, das Ephemere zu fassen. In der musikalischen Umsetzung feiert die Arie die Lust, am Flüchtigen teilzuhaben. Festhalten und Archivieren einerseits und Tun, Partizipieren andererseits bilden das Spannungsfeld des Vortrages. Dabei wird ein weiter historischer Bogen aufgespannt um zu zeigen, wie altes abgelegtes Wissen in unsere Zeit hineinragt und zur nuancierten Wieder- und Neubelebung einlädt.

(eng) The title is taken from a poem by Barthold Heinrich Brockes which Georg Friedrich Händel made a musical score for. The text fragment emphasizes the impossibility of grasping the ephemeral. In the musical adaptation, the aria celebrates the desire to participate in the ephemera. Capturing and archiving on the one hand and acting and participating on the other form the tension field of this lecture. A wide historical curve is outlined in order to reveal how old knowledge finds its way into our time and calls for a nuanced revival and revitalisation. 

Bio

(de) Siegfried hat an der Universität Zürich studiert und hat dort mit einer Arbeit in der Fächerkombination Psychologie, Kunstgeschichte und Philosophie promoviert. Lehraufträge über Wahrnehmung und Tanz führten ihn an mehrere Universitäten und Akademien bis er ab 1982 seine Forschungsarbeit „Aesthetik als Verhalten – am Modell des menschlichen Tanzes“ im Max Planck Institut in Seewiesen in Angriff nahm. Die Studie wurde in Beauty and the Brain beim Birkhäuser-Verlag, Basel, Boston, Berlin 1988 veröffentlicht und bildet bis heute die theoretische Basis für Siegfrieds Kunstprojekte und Performances. 
In den Jahren 1986-2005 unterrichtete Siegfried kontinuierlich an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in München und an der Kunstgewerbeschule in Zürich – heute Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.
Siegfrieds Arbeiten wurden gefördert und ausgezeichnet vom Schweizerischen Nationalfonds und Pro Helvetia, vom Siemens Kulturprogramm und von der Landeshauptstadt München, sowie von Philip Morris und dem Aargauer Kuratorium.

(eng) Siegfried studied at the University of Zurich where he wrote his PhD thesis in the fields psychology, art history and philosophy. Teaching assignments on perception and dance brought him to several universities and academies up until 1982, when he began his research project “Aesthetik als Verhalten – am Modell des menschlichen Tanzes” at the Max Planck Institute in Seewiesen. The study was published as Beauty and the Brain at Birkhäuser-Verlag, Basel, Boston, Berlin in 1988 and still shapes the theoretical framework of Siegfried’s own art projects and performances to this day.
Between 1986 and 2005 Siegfried regularly taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and at the arts school in Zurich – today called Zurich University of the Arts. 
Siegfried's works have been supported and awarded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and Pro Helvetia, by Siemens’ cultural program and by the City of Munich, as well as by Philip Morris and the Aargauer Kuratorium.
